Arlington Virginia Police Arrest Suspect in Commercial Burglaries

Arlington , Va – The Arlington County Police Department has arrested a suspect in a series of commercial burglaries along the Wilson Boulevard corridor from Rosslyn to Ballston. 44-year-old Dwayne Waddell Johnson of Washington, D.C. was arrested during a break-in in the Ballston area. A witness called 911 and reported seeing a suspicious person enter a closed restaurant in the 4200 block of Fairfax Drive. Officers on the Midnight Shift responded and established a perimeter around the building. When police announced their presence the suspect fled out a side door and was immediately taken into custody.

Johnson is charged with commercial burglary, grand larceny and possession of burglarious tools. Detectives with the Arlington Police Burglary Unit believe Johnson was responsible for four other burglaries reported this past weekend. He is also a suspect in 24 other commercial burglaries dating back to January, 2006. In most cases the thief targeted a small business, pried open an exterior door and took money from the cash register.

During the investigation it was determined Johnson was wanted on outstanding warrants from three other jurisdictions. There is a warrant for his arrest for burglary in Cook County, Illinois, a warrant for escape from the Illinois Department of Corrections, and a warrant from Minneapolis, Minnesota for aggravated assault while armed. He is currently being held without bond in the Arlington County jail.
